Shostakovich’s deeply personal swan song for viola and piano and virtuosic arrangements from Prokofiev’s iconic Romeo and Juliet are paired with contemporary composer Alexei Kurbatov’s spellbinding, unusually voiced trio—guiding listeners on an intimate journey of pathos, tenderness, and transcendence.
